Do you remember how you loved Joni Mitchell, Carol King, or Laura Nyro when you first heard their exquisite voices singing about the things that matter to all of us? Listening to Hillary Reynolds will transport you to the emotional place you were in when these singer songwriters amazed you. Her lyrics touch on subjects that affect us all, sometimes with a twist: a daughter taking care of a parent, a lover’s remorse. She and her band will also treat the Orchard House Cafe audience to songs of India Arie and Tracy Chapman, accentuating the musical beauty those artists created, adding her own style to their pieces. Hillary has created a following in the Boston area, where she has lived and performed for the past three years. She recently compiled a CD of songs – of hers and other artists – to raise money for women with breast cancer. In gratitude for attending, Hillary will email each attendee on April 10 one of her songs. hillaryreynolds.com Suggested donation $15 ($10 students and seniors)

What is the source of creativity? What is the work in art or craft? Perhaps the material worked on is also the person engaged in the process. Join us for the first of a series of explorations on the artistic process. Three artists who teach at the Artsweekend each July, will explore their aims and efforts to produce high quality work in a variety of materials: Sylvia March will explore the mysteries of pottery making; Suzanne Punch will demonstrate painting on silk and Barbara Spiegel will describe how she teaches creating a character in acting class. There will be opportunities for hands-on experience and participation. For more information on the artists and Artsweekend visit: Artsweekend.com Suggested donation: $15 ($10 students and seniors)

"Join me on a journey of stories from many spiritual paths that tell of our heavenly aspirations and our earthly goof-ups. Hasidic tale, Lakota fable, Taoist folktale chart our crazy, non-linear path to the Oneness. We'll have to take some detours on the way- nigguns (melodies) you'll think you know and maybe you do, and sign-posts of poems about our relationship with all things. Will you have fun if you come? Ten kings, two ants, and a little mouse all say: Probably Yes! "Carole Forman is an absolute master at her craft" (Jacqueline Rose, Youth Services Supervisor, Public Library, Lake Oswego, OR), who brings "the delight of vivid theater" (Hassan Suhrawardi Gebel, Secretariat of the Sufi Order) "with the magic of her voice, her humor, her flexible, graceful and yielding body we see it all" (Carol Fox Prescott, acting teacher). "We were tuned into her every word.." (The Rev. Robin Long, Pastor, Suttons Bay Cong. Church, MI)) "She made us laugh...she made us cry...at times, both at once." (Froma Fallik, Boulder JCC, CO). "Her storytelling is electrifying! A taste of heaven!" ((Rabbi Aaron Raskin, Cong. B'nai Avraham, Brooklyn, NY). Carole Forman is a baal misaper ruchani (Hebrew for master spiritual storyteller). An actor and singer-chanteuse (on Broadway once), she fell in love with storytelling, studied in the Jewish Spirit Maggid Training Program, and has been delighting audiences throughout the U.S. and Canada.
